Sandra "Kay" Huffer, 71, of Frederick, MD, went to be with the Lord on December 6, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on April 9, 1945 in Middletown, MD, the only child of the late Charles Jacob Huffer and Alice Elizabeth Locke Huffer.
Kay was a member of Frederick Church of the Brethren and a graduate of Frederick High School. She was a lab technician for Charles River until her retirement in 2010. She then started her second career as an activities coordinator at Country Meadows and later, Homewood Retirement Center, where she worked until she suffered a stroke in March 2016.
Kay loved music, and was a soprano with The National Christian Choir and the Rainbow Connection. She especially enjoyed the choir trip to Israel and the cruise to Alaska. She also loved her fur babies. She always had numerous pets and loved them as her children.
She is survived by special friends Sharon Catron, Nancy Cole, Roxie Ann Stitely and Bernie Tregoe; several cousins; and beloved pets Bently and Tigger.
She was predeceased by her former husband Robert Sheckles.
Friends and family will gather for a celebration of Kay's life on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at
1 pm at Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Avenue, Frederick, MD. Pastor Tim Shatzer will officiate. A reception will immediately follow in the church multi-purpose room.
We would like to thank the staff of Genesis at Ballenger Creek Center for her care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to any animal charity of your choice or to cancer research.

Heaven gained another soprano. We will miss her dearly but are thankful she's "Safely Home." Love and condolences to her dear friends, co-workers, staff at Genesis (you guys are awesome!) and my fellow NCC family. We were blessed to know such a great lady.

My dear Kaysie
Not a day goes by that I don't think of you and fun we had over the years. You were a wonderful friend. We went through some good times and bad times. You never complained.
You are now with the Angels choir. I will think of you always when I sing. Love you my dear sister......
