Mrs. Mary Jean Herman (nee Lusk), in her 85th year, formerly of 507 Richard Street, Thunder Bay, died peacefully in the TBRHSC on Thursday, January 12, 2017 with her children at her side. Born in Capreol, Ontario on April 25, 1931 she moved from there to, what was to become, Thunder Bay. It was here that she met the love of her life, Maurice Herman and on October 12, 1951 they were married. Together they raised six children in the house that they built together on Richard Street. Jean, as she was known, was an excellent homemaker and cook, somehow keeping tabs on her six very active children. When those children had flown the coop, she went to work for Eaton's selling children's clothing. Having never driven a car, at the age of 55 she passed her driver's license test, a feat she was very proud of. Once Maurice retired the two of them spent many summers for the next two decades travelling throughout Northern Ontario, camping and fishing in their motor home. In her retirement, Jean took the greatest pleasure and joy in spending time with her 11 grandchildren and 7 great grand children. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring person who was admired by many. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband Maurice, her sisters Joan and Jewel, and brothers George and Ted. Jean is survived by her children, Stephen( Joanne), Catherine Andrews (Bruce), Robert (Sharlene), Chris, Laurie Wilkie (Grant) and Lynn Herman (Chris), 18 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and the family will be having a private service in the future. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay.
