Howard William Rush, the son of Vernon Dee and Grace Elizabeth (Barr) Rush, was born July 1, 1937 in Creston. He died at his home in Griswold on Feb. 8, 2017 at the age of 79 years, seven months, and seven days.
Howard attended school at Griswold, graduating with the class of 1955. On June 26, 1959, he was united in marriage to Doris Riepe at the Griswold Central Church of Christ. They lived and farmed north of Griswold for 57 years. Recently, they moved into Griswold.
Howard was a member of the Griswold Central Church of Christ, where he had served as an elder and a deacon. He had been involved in tractor pulling and then later enjoyed sharing his love of antique cars and tractors with others at his Ford's and More Museum. Howard was happiest when he was spending time with his family.
Howard is preceded in death by his parents; his brother George; and his daughter-in-law Sheri Rush.
He is survived by his wife Doris of Griswold; his children: Kelly Rush and wife Mary of Waukee, Kenny Rush of Griswold, Kevin Rush and wife Gena of Griswold, and Karla Schumacher and husband Michael of Adel; his grandchildren: Lauren Rush, Kathryn Rush, Macy Rush, Macala Taulborg and husband Chris, Melanie Rush, Keith Rush and wife Kalli, Payton Rush, Karsyn Rush, Ava Rush, Jacob Schumacher and Justin Schumacher; his great grandchildren, Brom and Isla Taulborg; his brother Dale Rush and wife Norma of Griswold; his sister Ruth Hemphill and husband Dennis of Griswold; and his sister-in-law Phyllis Rush of Griswold. Howard is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Griswold Central Church of Christ. Interment will be in Pleasant Township Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, Feb. 12 from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. at the Griswold Central Church of Christ. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
