Bernard Edgar Minks, 85, St. Clair, formerly of Lonedell, departed this life Wednesday, March 8, 2017, in Washington.
Bernard was born Aug. 20, 1931, in Potosi, the son of Arthur Henry Minks and wife Ollie Frances, nee Brimm. On July 15, 1961, he was united in marriage to Betty Ann Ganim, and they were blessed to have 56 years together.
Bernard was a Christian and longtime member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in St. Clair. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, entering July 22, 1953, and receiving his honorable discharge May 19, 1955. After his discharge, he began his career with Ford Motor Company in St. Louis, retiring after 30 years of service to the company. He also was a retiree of United Auto Workers Local 325 of St. Louis. Bernard's favorite pastime was caring for his farm. He enjoyed raising Black Angus and Simmental cattle, as well as raising hay. Fishing was another of his hobbies, and he was talented at woodworking. He and Betty enjoyed traveling and fellowshipping with their family and friends.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Betty Minks, St. Clair; one brother, James Minks, Sullivan; two sisters, Ruth Winkleman and husband James, De Soto, and Betty Lou Bobo, Terre du Lac; brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; and many friends.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ollie Minks; one brother, Brice Minks; and three sisters, Frances Bliss, Anna Thomas and Shirley Kirby.
Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 10, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at Friendship Baptist Church, St. Clair, with the Rev. John Dover officiating.
Interment, with full military honors, was held in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements were in care of Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
