Helen S. Martin COLUMBIA Helen S. Martin, 89, of Columbia, died Monday, April 17, 2017. Born October 2, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Rebecca Blizzard Shannon and the wife of the late Johnny F. Martin. She was a charter member of Midway Independent Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years, as well as Trustee of the church. Mrs. Martin was the matriarch of the family and the greatest mother-in-law that ever lived. She loved gardening and fishing, but her greatest love of all was her family. Survivors include daughters, Sandy Coley (Joe), Donna Martin (Wayne Asbill); extended children, Faye Sample, Ann Oxley, Larry Martin, and Crystal Coley; sisters, Pauline Rhoden and Rebecca Weems; grandchildren, Jeremy Coley, and Summer Coley; great-grandchildren, Madisen Coley, Bryson Coley, Grace Coley, and Christian Coley. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Martin; four brothers, and two sisters. A funeral service will be held 11 o'clock, Thursday, April 20th at Midway Independent Methodist Church, 8481 Old Percival Road, Columbia, with The Reverend Jerry Hacker officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friend from 6 until 8 o'clock, Wednesday at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Fishers of Midway Youth Group, Midway Independent Methodist Church, 8481 Old Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
