Mary Lemieux Obituary

TOPSHAM - Mary Watson Lemieux, 81, of Topsham, passed away on Jan. 3, 2019, after a courageous two and a half year battle with cancer. Mary was born in Damariscotta on Nov. 10, 1937, the daughter of George and Helen (Weeks) Watson. She graduated from Lincoln Academy, in 1956, and Farmington State Teachers College, in 1961. She met and married her husband, Neil I. Lemieux, in college. She began her career as substitute teacher, in Rockland, while raising four young children. She and Neil shared a love of adventure. They would often pack the kids and the dog into their station wagon to embark on spontaneous road trips throughout New England and beyond.

The family moved throughout the state of Maine, pursuing opportunities to advance their careers in education, making lifelong friends along the way. She attained her master's degree in education from the University of Maine at Presque Isle, before moving to South China, where she retired at the Windsor Elementary School, in 1998. After Neil's passing, Mary met her "sweetheart" of 16 years, Charlie Tuttle. She had a zest for life and never missed an opportunity to get together with friends to play games such as marbles or corn hole, or to share stories over coffee. She enjoyed quilting, spending time with her family, body surfing in the ocean, and her dog, Pandy, who was her constant companion.

Mary was active in her community and church wherever she went. She was a member of the Mid Coast Presbyterian Church, in Topsham, and the Coronado Community United Methodist Church, in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Mary and Charlie were blessed with wonderful neighbors and friends, in Maine and Florida, who helped tremendously over the past few years.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Neil Lemieux, in 2001.

She leaves behind four children, Daniel N. Lemieux and his wife, Laurie, of Winthrop, Scott L. Lemieux and his wife, Julie, of Harpswell, Laurie Lemieux Mack and her husband, Alan, of Portland, and Amy L. Nisbett, of Bangor; her sister, Louise W. Williamson of Jefferson; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her partner, Charles Tuttle.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 4-6 p.m. at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 13, at the Mid-Coast Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Topsham.
