KLEIN, Michael John, born April 6, 1956, departed this life on January 30, 2021. He was predeceased by his father and mother, John and Mary Klein; and his beloved wife, Joan Echtenkamp-Klein. Michael received his bachelor's degree from St. Francis University, his master's and doctoral degrees in Anthropology from the University of Virginia. He was an accomplished researcher in the field of archaeology, an avid reader, a connoisseur of music and the culinary arts. Mike was an ardent Philadelphia sports fan, a college basketball enthusiast and a baseball devotee, following the game from Olympic play to the major leagues. Mike's knowledge was encyclopedic. His perception and understanding ran keen and deep and he possessed a unique sense of both pathos and wit. Mike celebrated and deeply appreciated his family, friends and colleagues. With Joan, Mike found a partner for life. Mike was a devoted husband, a loyal friend and a dearly loved uncle. Mike will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues and fraternity brothers. A memorial service will be held at the UVA columbarium in Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday, April 24 at 10 a.m. (University COVID precautions may limit the number of participants on-site). We did his taxes every year - only knew him from a once a year visit, but a very nice person. May he rest in peace.

I am stunned and saddened by this tragic news. Mike was a great friend to so many. I will miss him as will our Charlottesville gang. Gone too soon.
