David Newby Obituary

David LeeNewby , Sr. Will Be Missed  Dave passed away on August 20th, 2004 after a long battle with prostate cancer. He is survived by his children David Newby, Dennis Newby, Denise Hudson, Kyle Newby, David Newby, Desiree Dawn (Missy) Newby, Audra Sushak, Shauna Sowles, and Brian Follett. Additionally, he is survived by many friends in the SCTA-BNI and Utah Racing Association, as well as his good friend Walt Scott. He enjoyed his work at the races for 21 years, and this important time generated some of his fondest memories. A memorial service will be held at the Wendover Christian Fellowship in Wendover, Utah on Tuesday, August 24th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please offer donations to the Huntsman Cancer Institute or Hospice for Utah. Our sincerest thanks go out to all of his care providers from hospice.

All can tell that you will be missed by many, however, now you will be with the true love of your life, Carol. May you spend eternity smiling and laughing with each other and following the lives of those you love.

Dave was that smiling face you met at "The End OF The Road" every morning, flashlight in hand, wishing you a "Good Morning'. He may be gone but not forgotten!!! God Speed, Dave

He was the first to greet us and the last to say "Goodbye".

He was the beginning and the end of the week to which we most look forward.

He was backlit by every sunrise and every sunset, a flag in every windstorm and a beacon in every monsoon.

He shared the memories of his childhood, the thrills of his adolesence, and the struggles of his adulthood...always ending each story with a laugh.

He was always there and so shall he always be; not a day on the salt will pass with out a fond remembrance of him.

Dave Newby was, is, and always will be the Gatekeeper of what we consider "Heaven".

In the Hawaiian language the word ohana means family. Dave had such an extended family with a diverse background. The common factor was that he always had such an sincere greeting for each person.

Years ago I had the privilege of doing a special photo of him and his wife. I can carry that image with me always.

His last contribution was to leave Linda as his greeter. She learned her lessons well and relates a part of Dave to us as she waves us on to the place where our dreams are fulfilled.

It was always a pleasure to see Dave at the entrance. I never could figure out why he would do the job and miss the racing but God love him for it.

Dave was the smiling face at the end of the road when going onto the Salt. Although others have taken his place at the end of the road, Dave and his friendly greeting will be certainly be missed by all that knew him.

For years Dave was the point man for thousands of land speed racing hopefuls who drove down the access road on their way to Bonneville Speedway. Always alert, always jovial, he was more than just a "traffic cop" at the end of the road, he was a security lightening rod that protected the speeders by making feel comfortable that nothing would get past Dave and in their way when challening the time clocks.

A friendly, dedicated man helpe dso many live their dream, may God bless him and keep him as safely as he kept us.
