Linda,
I served with Charles from September 1942 until the end of the war. Myself and some of the men he served with had tried on many occasions to locate him without success. I was proud to have served with him in Headquarters Co. 2nd Battalion 506 P.I.

Our eldest daughter Elize was born mentally and fysically handicapped in 1994. Up untill that moment I only thought about my freedom which I have because of the soldiers of WWII. But after her birth I realized that I did not only had to thank them for my freedom but that I had to thank them for her life. And that thought is with me every day. And so I think of the soldiers of WWII every day when I look at my daughter and see how happy see is. So to me Charles Rhinehart is a hero and I will not forget him.
Please accept my deepest sympathies. Ronald Smit

"...Only the brave will know!" Mr. Rhinehart thank you very much for our freedom in Europe. - I'm a good friend of Robert D. Lott who was a Sergeant with the 101st ABN / 327th GIR / C-compagnie. Because of him I met a lot of veterans of WWII, something I will never forget... They stood alone:" Currahee !"

Dear Linda,

Linda, it’s a great loss for you to loose your father, no matter what age he died.
Really hope he has had a good old age, he deserved that.
By all sadness you have, you can be proud to have had a father, who belonged to the 101st Airborne Division, which was in the most terrible fights in WWII to liberate Europe (including Holland) from horrible terror.
Try to find comfort in the very nice memories your father was part of it; as we do: we still are happy and very grateful for the liberation he, his comrades and his fallen comrades gained for us.
He now is in heaven with his war buddies, for whom he fought and risked his life as his comrades did for him.
May our dear Charles (Rhinehart) rest in peace.

Taps

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.

Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.

Thanks and praise, for our days,
'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.

Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.

While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend
