Memorial day 2023. Remembering an old friend taken from us way too early. I hadn't seen you since high school, but still remember the times we spent hanging out. Thought about you often today. I only found out about your passing a few years ago and was so sad to know you were gone, but so proud of the Marine you had been. I didn't know you as a married man, though I wish I could have met your family. Carol, sorry for your loss. One of the memories that kept coming to mind was a trip to Jerome that you were kind enough to take me along. Jason bought some horrendous fart spray at a shop on that trip. It was a great memory of the fun that Jason brought to everything. I miss him and today remember the sacrifice he and his family made as a Marine family.
Miss you bud.

Jason,

First off, I miss you so much. I think about you often but a little bit more today. I never got to know your family, but knowing you, they all are amazing people and I grieve for them today. We spoke the afternoon of the 2nd in Hit and then what happened happened. I'm so incredibly sorry and I wish we could have done so much more. I've tried to live my life like you would--"to the max" (LOL) and with honor. I hope you know you left a huge mark in my life and I know for a fact I'm just one of dozens and dozens. Love you, Jason.

It's 1:30 in the morning and I began to think of you, our country and all of the men and women who have fought so hard to protect us and our freedom. Jason, your mom and I speak of you and Aaron often. I know you have your arms around him and are protecting him as you did on earth. As I am reading these messages left to you, I know how your life on earth impacted so many in positive ways. I feel blessed to be your aunt. God bless you and we miss you very much.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and to also let the Whitehouse Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one, Jason D. Whitehouse US Marine Staff Sergeant. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

Hey bro it doesn't get easier down here and everyday is a struggle, but everytime I think I can't go on I think about you and what you taught me. Everytime I complained you would say it could always be worse. You took care of us and taught us how to survive and stay alive more than you realized. Thanks bro miss you everyday. Take care of your baby boy up there. And I am sorry for not keeping my promise to you!

I'm sitting on a rooftop in Afghanistan tonight. It's cold. The wind has a bite to it and the rain isn't helping much. The cold that cuts down to the bone. It's miserable. But it could be worse. And all I can do is think about you, everyday but especially tonight. I'd rather be nowhere else. I wish you were here or I there. I love you! We love you! And miss you something fierce. For all that you gave, for all you have sacrificed.... Thanks to you and your family, from the bottom of my heart. - A Brother.

June 26, 2013

Dear Jason,
It's been awhile, and I hope you can forgive me. I never got a chance to know you, or even really speak to you, especially on the night of the 2nd. We all were busy doing our jobs, you yours and me mine. Given the situation, formalities were just uncalled for. As soon as you linked up with our team, you went to work. I think you worked with me and my team on one other occasion before the 2nd. However, like you, I was busy doing my job. Oddly enough our professionalism, when even in the same house, kept us from really meeting each other. The most I had ever interacted with you was on the night of the 2nd. Incidentally, that dinner happened to be one of my most memorable dinners, one in which I was eating with a group of Marines I couldn't be more proud to have served with. I didn't say much. When I did speak, Sarah would get after me for cursing at the table. Those corrections of his have been a keepsake of mine to remember him by. I had never introduced myself to you though I knew who you were.
Well, here I am. I was 24 at the time. But, I think that doesn't matter. What I think matters is what I have done since, how I think I can best honor you, Sarah, and my friends Luke and Lasky. I lost most of my eyesight in the blast, however, have done my best to push the fight. While in the Hospital I saved almost 75% of every paycheck for 2 years and used that money to make a down payment on a house. I also started a wildlife biology degree at Texas State University, of which I'm one semester shy of graduating. I'm married now as well. At the time you and I were sharing our last dinner my wife was only my girlfriend. We have two dogs. No kids. I think I'm about all my wife can handle at the moment. She has never met you, yet she knows you by name.
It really isn't an exaggeration when I say I think of you, Sarah, Luke and Lasky every day. I'm sure you noticed me between handling insurgents or shuffling from an OP on a roof to a window. My name is Joey. That is what my Friends and Family call me. I am humbly honored to have served with you in your final moments Brother. We will meet again, and in that moment I will hear your story.

Thank you for your time Jason.

Respectfully,

Jose A. Martinez III

November 2, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jason, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. SSgt Whitehouse was for me a role model. As a new Marine when I checked in to NMITC he was there going through his MOS course. He didn't treat me unjust or pick on me because I was a new Marine; he treated me as a brother, an equal. He has and will forever be the person whom I could look up to and just want to be a better person. I saw him not 3 days before I left for Iraq with his wife and child/children, and that would be the last time I saw SSgt Whitehouse in person.

I will never forget you SSgt Whitehouse. You influence will forever be etched into my memory and I am truely gratefull to have known you. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand. Rest in Peace big brother.

May 20, 2007

Jason,

Rest in Peace Brother. You will be missed by many. Jason, your family was large, from the one which raised you to the one you shed blood with. Your assignments were hard and unwanted, yet you stepped up and took them. Today you stand over all of us looking down, your wings guarding over Lindsay, Aaron and Haylie. Your image remains today as it did prior to departing the company on this last one, that of a United States Marine. Semper Fidelis Brother, may you rest in peace.

Mr & Mrs Whitehouse, Lindsay, Aaron and Haylie.

I never walked up to you, prior to or after, Jason's Memorial on 11 May 2007, many of Jason's closer friends did. I, having just returned, thought it would be fitting for others who knew Jason prior to stepping off on his last mission to be the ones to give their respects. Truth is that Jason was a friend to all of us, in a job where your name and dignity are all you have, Jason had us all beat. An awesome human being, Jason will always be. Although I can not share in your grief as deeply and profound as you, I do know that his picture will always be on a wall in work area along with two other friends lost in Iraq. And when asked about Jason, they will know what great human being he is to all of us. My condolences to all of you, but rest assured that he now looks over all of you, as the United States Marine he will always be.

Please know how Deeply Sorry I was to learn of the recent loss of this Brave Young Marine, Staff Sgt. Jason D. Whitehouse,

As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly,
and as a sister, who has lost a brother to war,
I am aware of the deep and devastating pain
that you are experiencing.
The overwhelming heartache that seems to surface
through our shock, as the time passes.
Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.
Hope is not only the light we carry within...
It is also, what often carries us through...

May Jason Rest Safely, in the Loving Care of God
and know that he Will Never Be Forgotten.
I pray that the Peace of God will continue to be with the Whitehouse family.
I am the sister, of such a Young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

I sincerely hope that you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and every day, as this Country remembers Jason and his Sacrifice. He Is A Hero to all of us.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I recently saw Jason's name on a list as one of our Marines killed in Arizona. I am truly sorry for the family's loss.
I enlisted in the Marines 7 years ago and met Jason Whitehouse in December 2000 when we swore in at Phoenix MEPS. Jason, myself and another recruit were leaving for basic training at MCRD San Diego that day, and I remember it like yesterday because I was so nervous.
I did not graduate basic training with Jason but was always curious to know how he was doing in the Marine Corps. He was one of the many persons I met in my short time with the Marines and I was saddend to hear about his passing.
I will never forget those I trained with, especially SSg. Jason Whitehouse.

I am so sorry for your loss and the loss to the world of such a fine young man. I did not personally know him, but I read that he was born in Houston and wondered if he might be related to my husband's nephew, Floyd Whitehouse, Jr. of Pearland. Please know our thoughts and prayers
are with you.
