Carlo Giordano Obituary

AUBURN < Carlo L. Giordano, 82, of 15 Westwood Drive, Auburn, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2008 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Italy, Carlo came to the U.S. in 1956. He worked as a self-employed builder and real estate developer, having built many homes in the Westwood Drive neighborhood. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 281, as well as a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 0735. He loved to travel and especially visit his family in Italy. He thoroughly enjoyed constructing award-winning replicas, including the Coliseum of Italy and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, among many others. Carlo was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and loved to watch wrestling, bull riding, horse racing and working in his garden. He treasured the time spent with his west end McDonald"s friends. For the past decade, he was instrumental in organizing dinner dances that were a gathering of friends for an evening of fun. A communicant of St. Francis Church, Carlo was an usher and volunteered his time for their annual bazaar. Carlo is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Carmela Galbato Giordano; daughter, AnnMarie Giordano and her long-time companion Ron Zelias, of Auburn; brother-in-law Tom Galbato; nieces and nephews, Eleanor, Elisa, David Sebastian, Michael, Rick and Sandra, as well as his nieces and nephews in Italy, Maria Pina, Ginetta, Antonella, Ferlenda, Giovanna, Carlo, Tony, AnnaMaria and Palmerino; and special cousins Dom and Rita Sorendo, of Florida, and Jimmy, Anthony and Michael Sorendo, as well as Edna and the Keefe family, all of Buffalo. Carlo was predeceased by a brother, Dominico Giordano; sisters, Constantina and Guisseppa Giordano; brother-in-law, Joseph Galbato and his wife, Maria Galbato; and sister-in-law, Carmella Galbato. Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered by the Rev. Eugene Dobosz at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, in St. Francis Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 16, at the Cheche Funeral Home Inc., 1778 Clark St., Auburn. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Carlo to the St. Francis Church Building Fund, 299 Clark St., Auburn. Whether you knew Carlo very well or just passed him in the aisle of the supermarket, he would always smile, nod or wave. He touched everyone with his warm, kind and loving approach to life. He will be forever remembered and sorrowfully missed. To send a message to the family, sign our guest book at www.auburnpub.com and click on obituaries.

Carmelina and AnnMarie, No amount of tears or words can express how this loss of Carlos life affects me. I am deeply thankful for your family and the friendship we have shared over these 28 years, since my children and I moved here to Auburn. Our friendship together, has been a big part of my life and has meant a great deal to me. I never imagined or dreamed that a landlord and tenant relationship with your family, would have grown to become so much more than that. Your familys' kindness, acceptance, and friendship with me, and how much it has meant over the years, cannot be expressed within these heartfelt words. I greatly respected Carlos, not only as a former landlord and a friend, but for the businessman that I knew he was. I admired his unchanging character and personality, his imagination and creative talent, and the daily, deep expression of his love for you both. The loss of his life and the memories of a friendship shared, will be forever in my heart. I love you and your family dearly. You know I am here for you whenever you need me. I pray that you will both find comfort in knowing that God is ever present and receives every prayer. And as I trust the Savior, I know that prayers never go unanswered. God Bless You both. Forever your friend, Linda Dority

To the family of Carlo Giordano, I am extremely sadden and shocked on the passing of my very good friend Carlo. I have known Carlo for over 30 years and everytime he saw me he would stop me to talk. We always had long conversations together. I saw Carlo just before I moved to N. Carolina 3 years ago and have thought of him many times. Loosing Carlo is like loosing a member of my very own family and I shall miss him dearly. My prayers and thoughts go out to him and his family. I'm sure that our Lord is giving Carlo his well deserved reward in paradise because of all the good this decent man did during his life.
