Richard Briggs Obituary

HOLIDAY, Fla. - Richard S. Briggs, 76, of Holiday, Fla., formerly of Sennett, passed away on Dec. 2, 2007, at the Marliere Care Center in Florida. Richard was born in Auburn and moved to Florida in 1997. He was a 1949 graduate of Port Byron High School and served four years in the Navy during the Korean War. Richard worked many years in the construction industry and was a welder by trade. He was a member of Gideons International and enjoyed distributing Bibles. He also enjoyed singing in church choirs and singing barbershop with the Lakelanders in Auburn. He was a member of the Holiday Community Fellowship Church. Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elyse Skillett Briggs; his daughter, Renee Briggs, of Clearwater, Fla.; his brother, Charles Briggs, of Parish; his sister, Helen Foster, of Union Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, at the White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South St., Auburn. Friends may visit with his family from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, prior to services. Burial will be at Fleming Rural Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons International Auburn Camp or the Fleming Federated Church, 4981 State Route 34, Auburn, NY 13021, in memory of Richard Briggs.
