Erma Adeline Carey Roberts

UNION SPRINGS < Erma Adeline Carey Roberts, 96, of Center Street, Union Springs, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Erma was a communicant of St. Michael"s Church, Union Springs, where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. A graduate of Canastota High School and Morrisville Teachers Training Class, she taught school in a rural schoolhouse in Madison County, and later was employed with the NYS Thruway Authority, retiring in 1974 after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Senior Citizens of Springport and Auburn, the Association for Widowed People, and a retired member of CSEA. Erma was an avid reader and loved knitting and gardening, but most of all enjoyed being with her beautiful family. The widow of Edwin (Pic) Roberts, and the daughter of the late Charles F. and Adeline Juneau Carey, Erma is survived by three sons, Roger and his wife, Charlotte, of Texas, Michael and his wife, Betty, of Seneca Falls, and David, of Auburn; two daughters, Helen Maassen and her husband, Harold, of North Carolina, and Norma Jean Updike and her husband, William, of Marcellus; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including a special grandchild, Nancy; and great-grandchild, Stephenie. She was predeceased by a son, LaVerne Roberts; two sisters, Doris and Helen; and a grandson, Kevin Maassen. Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian burial to be offered at 9:30 a.m. Friday, in St. Michael"s Church, by the Rev. Richard J. Shatzel. Burial will be in the spring in Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Dec. 6, at the Cheche Funeral Home, 1778 Clark St., Auburn.
