Jeffrey L. Jayne

NILES - Jeffrey L. Jayne, 52, of Burdock Road, Niles, died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 7, 2007. Jeffrey was born June 2, 1955, in Auburn, the son of the late Gordon and Eunice Reynolds Jayne. He was a life-long resident of Niles. He graduated from Moravia Central School class of 1973, attended Cayuga Community College and was employed with the town of Niles Highway Department until joining the New York State Police in 1978. He retired from the state police due to a disability in 1989. Jeff enjoyed hunting, woodworking, carpentry and growing bird seed but mostly loved his family. He was a 34-year member of the New Hope Fire Department and was a past chief officer. He was also a member of the NYS Police Benevolent Association. Jeff is survived by his wife, LuAnn Durbin Jayne, whom he married April 16, 1994; a son, Nicholas; sister, Sheila (David) Jones, of Sempronius; brother, Jack (Joan) Jayne, of Kelloggsville; sister, Jill Murphy, of Niles; several aunts and uncles including special "Unk Wally;" several nieces and nephews, Amy, Brian, Jody, Jennifer, Heather, James, and his best friend and nephew, Sean. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Midlakes United Methodist Church, Route 41A, New Hope, with The Rev. Arthur Fellows officiating. Burial will be in Kelloggsville Rural Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in the Wade Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Moravia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Jeff"s name to the New Hope Fire Department, Four Town First Aid or Midlakes United Methodist Church.
