Van Uk Lian

Van Uk Lian "Pu Van" Battle Creek Van Uk Lian, 56, of Battle Creek, was born on January 22, 1952 at Lumbang, Chin State, Burma. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 5:15 p.m. at the Battle Creek Health System. Van immigrated to the U.S. in 2000, settling in Battle Creek since 2002. He loved to memorize and recite Bible verses and sing hymns. Van always meditated on the meaning of Bible verses and hymn stanzas. He enjoyed fishing and had a gift for massaging with healing. Van has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Battle Creek since he moved to Battle Creek. His parents, Lieutenant Sia Mui and Thawng Hngel are in Lumbang, Burma. He is survived by his wife Saw Sawn, and his children Thang Bik Lian, Saw Awi Iang, Tuak Hlawn Khim, Thawng Ngun Par, and Tluang Hniang. His siblings are Khim Aung (Ta-chi-lik, Burma), Saw Khim (Bamaw, Burma), Hniar Mang (Chicago, USA), Thiam Mang (Chicago, USA), Sui Lal Mawi (Battle Creek, USA), Rev. Nun Lian Thang (Lumbang, Burma), and Rem Lan (Lumbang, Burma). At the request of the family, they will receive friends 5:00 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate "Pu Van's" life will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Battle Creek, 80 East Michigan Avenue, Battle Creek. Interment will follow immediately at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Baptist Church of Battle Creek would be appreciated.
