Theodore Kent Obituary

Theodore V. "Ted" Kent Battle Creek Theodore V. "Ted" Kent, age 76, of Battle Creek, went to be with our Lord August 14, 2008, at his residence. Theodore was born October 6, 1931, in Watson Township, Allegan County, Michigan, to Hollis and Mary (Munn) Kent. He was united in marriage to Dorothea Adrianse in Wayland, Michigan, on March 10, 1953, she survives. Ted, in his younger years, was a farmer and graduated from Martin High School in 1949. He served in the Korean War as an anti-aircraft radar control specialist and worked on one of the earliest radar assisted anti-aircraft artillery systems in San Francisco. After his service he worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Co., until 1983. During that time he was involved with the Sage building at Fort Custer, the Federal Center where he was responsible for setting up and overall testing of the Federal Center's first nationwide computer access system. He transferred to AT&T in 1983 until retiring in 1985. In 1986 he joined up with ITS, working as a contractor setting up and maintaining communications for computer systems in companies including, State Farm, Kellogg's, General Foods and others. Ted was always continuing his education and acted as a mentor to the younger people who worked with him. Ted was a member of the First Wesleyan Church for over 23 years and loved his Lord savior. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, hunting and traveling until his ill health. He was an avid NASCAR and stock car racing fan. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children, Carole (John) Burdick, Steven (Melanie) Kent and Kim (David) Weaver; 8 grandchildren, Anthony Nay, Nathanial Burdick, Elijha Kent, Mathew Bilbia, Jessica Clark, Jamie Nay, Rocky Weaver and Zoe Weaver; 6 great-grandchildren, Chelsea Nay, Madison Bilbia, Kaden Kent, Lexie Clark, Kierston Rutherford and Cole Rutherford; 2 sisters, Dorla (Gerry) Curry, Janice (Don) Hamilton; and uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and wonderful in-laws who loved him. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at the First Wesleyan Church, 14425 Helmer Rd., with the Rev. Dr. Robert L. Zuhl officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Wesleyan Church Building Fund. Arrangements are by Richard A. Henry Funeral Home.
