James Smith Obituary

James C. "Jim" Smith Battle Creek James C. "Jim" Smith, 75, of Battle Creek, died Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Battle Creek Health System. He was born in Sparta, TN on March 1, 1933 to Carlen and Myrtie (Cox) Smith. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He was employed by the Kellogg Company for 27 years as a truck driver until he retired in 1992. Jim married Betty Smith in 1953, she preceded him in death in 1995. He is survived by a son, Mickell J. (Salli) Smith; daughter, Tonyia (David) Tobias, all of Battle Creek; sister, Robbie Bilbrey of Battle Creek; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty and a son, Nick Smith. Jim was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club and American Legion Post #484, Hickory Corners. He enjoyed playing the stock market and spending time with his grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home, where services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Keith A. Rodriguez officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to AMVETS.
