Carl Andrews Obituary

Carl J. Andrews Athens Carl J. Andrews, of Athens, died Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Care Community. Carl was born July 3, 1910, in Stewart County, TN to Murray and Anna (Hooper) Andrews. He had four brothers, Earsley, Alvis, Garrett and Willard, and one sister Callie, all preceded him in death. Carl met Thelma Oldfield in Kokomo, IN and they married February 14, 1930. They had two sons, William (Sandy) of Battle Creek and Larry, now deceased. His wife Thelma, of 58 years, died in 1988. Carl had five grandchildren, David of Muskegon, Steven (Amanda) of Battle Creek, Shawn (Valerie) of Bellevue, Eric (Krista) and Kimberly (Charles) of Battle Creek. He also had five great- granddaughters and one great-grandson. He also left behind a very special friend and caregiver, Sandy Perkins. Carl respected the earth and its creatures, and always cared for them. After he left farming in Indiana in 1952 he joined the Automatic Sprinkler Fitters Union and recently received a certificate for having his 55 years of membership in Local 669. Aside from being a roadfitter he worked mostly for Smith-Hammond Piping Company of Springfield. After retiring, he enjoyed many years of gardening, which he was very good at, and also liked old cars of days gone by. He enjoyed telling about his love/hate relationship with these cars and the eras they were popular. May God need a gardener and an honest man. At Carl's request cremation has taken place and graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Eric Perry at Memorial Park Cemetery on August 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers a donation to children's or animal charity would be appreciated. Arrangements are by Royal Funeral Home.

Shawn, Eric, Kim and family - I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I have a couple of really fun memories of your Grandfather. He was a great person and that is for sure. I know you'll keep him in your heart.
My prayers are with you. I wish I could have been there for you, but you were in my heart.
