John Harner Obituary

John R. Harner, Jr. Covert John R. Harner, Jr., 49, of Covert, passed away from a long illness at his home on Sunday, August 24, 2008. Family services have been held and cremation has taken place. The Dey-Florin Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in St. Joseph is in charge of the arrangements. John was born on June 9, 1959 in Benton Harbor to John and Mary (Trowbridge) Harner. He attended Watervliet High School and obtained his GED in 1977. After high school, John became a cook and for nearly two decades, managed several area restaurants in Battle Creek, to include the Pancake House, Spring Lake Lanes, and the Clock Restaurant. Later, he and his wife Teresa owned TJ's Cafe in Battle Creek. John was loved and will be missed by all, but never forgotten. Survivors include his wife Teresa of 21 years; his children, Jason (Kris) Harner of Battle Creek, Stephanie Harner of Illinois, Julie Harner of Battle Creek; and his mother, Mary Williams of South Haven; his brother, Brian Goodrich of Niles; his sisters, Deborah (Billy) Pierce of Covert, Elizabeth Wood of Sault Ste. Marie, and Lisa (Dale) Kissinger of Battle Creek. John was preceded in death by his step-father, who he dearly loved, Roosevelt Williams, Sr.; and his grandparents, Claude and Dora (Riddle) Trowbridge.

Dear Teresa and Family,
Very sorry to hear about John. I don't know if you remember me. I worked at the Clock for 15 years and actually went to work the day it burned down. I had often wondered where John had gone after that and never new. I always enjoyed working with him. John had a great sense of humor.

(I remember a cruise you two and the kids went on years ago and you were taking scuba lessons?)
