Ailene R. Newby

Ailene R. Newby (Morehart) Battle Creek Ailene R. Newby (Morehart), 70, of Battle Creek passed away Monday, September 8, 2008 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence in Battle Creek. She was born November 26, 1937 in Plainville, IL the daughter of Albert and Vida (Greenwalt) Newby. Ailene graduated from Carlinville High School in 1955 and then she moved to Battle Creek in 1958. She volunteered for the Balloon Festival, the Neighbor Watch, and she belonged to the Harper Creek Optimistic Club. Ailene worked at the Fort Custer PX, W.T. Grant Department Store, and Bishop's Furniture, and then retired from Ralston's after 25 years of service. Post retirement Ailene worked at Horrock's and the Kellogg Arena where she was currently employed. Ailene belonged to the Sew and Sew Friends and she loved to quilt and applique. She loved to be in her garden, especially planting flowers and vegetables. Ailene liked to watch the birds. She loved to watch her grandsons play football and spend time with all of her grandchildren. Ailene like to bake at the holidays for her children. Most of all, Ailene had a real love of life. She is survived by her children, Fran Patterson of Lansing, Donald Morehart, Jr. of Battle Creek, Marjorie Jones of Battle Creek, Sandi (Charles) Collins of Galesburg, Al (Debbie) Morehart of Battle Creek; sister, Darlene Lawing of Chatham, IL; brother, Thomas Newby of East Alton, IL; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Albert and Edward Newby and her former husband, Donald Morehart, Sr. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Wednesday from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
