Neil Garfield Obituary

Neil E. Garfield Nokomis, FL Neil E. Garfield, age 83, of Nokomis, FL, formerly of Battle Creek, died Friday, September 12, 2008 at the Venice (FL) Regional Hospital. Neil was born on October 2, 1924 in Battle Creek, MI and was the son of Howard and Louise (Reynolds) Garfield. He attended Battle Creek Central High School. Neil retired in 1989 from the 10th District Court as a Probation Officer and had been a Captain for the Calhoun County Sheriff Department, in the 1960's. Also, he was an owner and operator of a TV repair business in Battle Creek. Neil was a member of the Ira A. Beck Masonic Lodge #503-F&AM and the Battle Creek American Legion Post #298. He enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting. On December 20, 1958 in Ionia, MI, Neil was united in marriage to the former, Audrey J. Erridge and she survives. They retired to Florida about 20 years ago. Also surviving are his stepson: Douglas (Carol) White of Climax, MI; two grandchildren: Todd (Susan) White and Kristin (Charles) Sorrells; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Neil was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Vivian Reynolds and Beverly Nichols and by a brother: Howard Garfield, Jr. At the request of the family, friends may call today, Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek. The graveside service to celebrate Neil's life will be held on Thursday, September 18th at 1:00 p.m. at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens Chapel, Emmett Township, with the Rev. Robert G. Muirhead, of Battle Creek, officiating. Memorial contributions in Neil's honor may be made to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
