Louis Powell Obituary

Louis Duane Powell Battle Creek Louis D. Powell, 55, of Battle Creek, passed away Friday, September 19, 2008 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born January 5, 1953 in Paw Paw, MI, the son of Charlie and Mamie (Stroud) Powell. Louie attended the Battle Creek Public Schools. He had worked for Grand Trunk Western Railroad for 17 years. He was an avid dog lover. Louie was a couch potato as he liked to watch TV. He liked to learn about the Urbandale History. As a young boy, Louie came to Battle Creek to live with his Special Aunt Ruby Grandstaff who raised him as a son. He is survived by his brothers and sister, Charles B. Powell of Battle Creek, Leon (Vickilyn) Powell of Battle Creek, Inez (Donald) Wilber of Pickerington, OH, special friend, Karen Thomason and several nephews, nieces and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Hazel Pellin, Evelyn Powell, Myrtle Louise "Jackie" Chism, and Mary Blackbourne. Graveside services will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m. at Bedford Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Memorial tributes may be made to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan.
