Cressie Johnson Obituary

Cressie W. Johnson Battle Creek Cressie W. Johnson, 89, of Battle Creek, died at the Laurels of Bedford, Monday, September 22, 2008. She was born March 28, 1919, in Piedmont, South Dakota to Bernie and Bertha Roberts; and was adopted and raised in Battle Creek by Robert and Leona Einhardt. Cressie was a 1938 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. In her younger years, she was employed at Oliver Manufacturing and by Kerr's Sporting Goods & Hardware in the Columbia Plaza. Cressie was married to Burton W. Johnson in Battle Creek September 2, 1939. She was preceded in death by "Burt", her husband of 52+ years on August 31, 1992 and by a grandson Bradley C. Johnson on October 14, 1989. Surviving are four sons, Larry E. Johnson of Hickory Corners, Stephen C. (Linda) Johnson, Denny L. (Rosemary) Johnson and Richard D. (Bernadette) Johnson, all of Battle Creek; 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Cressie enjoyed reading, the outdoors, birds and playing Bingo and other activities at the Laurels of Bedford. She was very family oriented and loved spending time with her family. At the request of the family, friends may call after 6:00 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services to celebrate Cressie's life will be officiated by Pastor James Beavers at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 25, 2008. Committal will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Laurels of Bedford "Activity Fund", 270 N. Bedford Rd., Battle Creek, MI 49017.
