Thelma Read Obituary

Thelma Rose Read Battle Creek Thelma Rose Read, 93, of Battle Creek, died Wednesday afternoon, September 24, 2008 at Park Place in Kalamazoo. She was born in Battle Creek on March 2, 1915 the daughter of Edwin and Matie (Shreve) Moan. Thelma graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1933 and furthered her education at Argubright Business College. She was a bookkeeper and "Girl Friday" for Alexander's Pharmacy in Lakeview through the 1970s and 1980s. Thelma married Rollie Read in Angola, Indiana in 1934; he preceded her in death in 1960. She is survived 2 sons, Rollie (Pat) Read of Portage and Terry (Susie) Read of Iron River, Michigan; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Thelma was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Moan and a sister, Hazel Collins. Thelma was a gardener all of her life and loved to work with flowers, especially roses. She enjoyed a succession of Little Black Schipperke dogs that were always her best friend. At the request of the family, a graveside service to celebrate Thelma's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Hickory Corners Cemetery with Pastor Randy Stehouwer, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation would be appreciated. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com
