Shirley Skirvin Obituary

Shirley J. Skirvin Battle Creek Shirley J. Skirvin, 86, of Battle Creek, died Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She was born in Indianola, Nebraska on September 27, 1922 the daughter of Francis and Dorothy (Collins) Powell. Shirley worked at Calhoun Federal Bank (now Great Lakes) and Security National Bank, then she worked a Federal Home Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1984 as a claims examiner after 15 years of faithful service. Shirley was preceded in death by her 2 husbands, Glenn Crawmer and Ross Skirvin; a son, Gary Crawmer; and a brother, Roger F. Powell. She is survived by her son, John (Sue) Crawmer of Iowa; her daughter Sharon A. (Chuck) Mead of Union City; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard F. Powell of Nebraska; and a sister, Barbara Wilson of Battle Creek. Shirley was formerly a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed working in her yard, dancing and spending time with her family. At the request of the family, a memorial service to celebrate Shirley's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. I worked with Shirley at Federal until
they moved to Florida in 1987. It was a priviledge to know this sweet and kind lady. I am so sorry for your loss. May happy memories carry you through this sad time.
