Celia Kaplan Obituary

Celia E. Kaplan Battle Creek Celia E. Kaplan, 58, of Battle Creek, died at Battle Creek Health System, after a brief illness Wednesday, October 1, 2008. She was born in Battle Creek to Philip F. and Edith (Hankey) Lockwood. Celia grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1967 graduate of Harper Creek High School. She attended Western Michigan University and received her Registered Nursing Degree from Kellogg Community College. She lived in Orange County, California for 24 years and returned to Battle Creek in 1999. Celia was currently employed at Mercy Pavilion. Previously she was employed by Metron in Kalamazoo and by hospitals and as a home care provider here and in California. Celia was formerly married to Alan M. Kaplan. Surviving are her daughter, Meredith (Jason) Kaplan Burns and a grandson, Jordan Burns of Aliso Viejo, CA; her mother, Edith Lockwood of Battle Creek; and a sister, Lois (Ron) Fields of Battle Creek. She was preceded in death by her father, Philip, on March 15, 1993. Celia loved to read, her cat, and to work on her computer. She laughed easily, appreciated others' talents and hard work; and adored her grandson, Jordan. At the request of the family, friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Friday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Services to celebrate Celia's life will be officiated by the Rev. Charles C. Caskey at Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 4, 2008. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
