Carrie Shilts Obituary

Carrie E. (Leavengood) Shilts Olivet Carrie E. (Leavengood) Shilts, age 94, of Olivet, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the Christian Elder Care Adult Foster Care Home. Carrie was born October 13, 1913 at Lyon Lake in Fredonia Township of Calhoun County, the daughter of Walter A. and Grace (Conley) Leavengood and had lived most of her life in the Olivet area. She was a graduate of Olivet High School, attended Eaton County Normal and received her B.S. and M.A. Degrees from Michigan State College. She taught school in area rural Schools including Section Hill School and then taught in the Bellevue School System for many years from where she retired in 1975. She loved to travel and had traveled extensively including Mexico, South America and even around the world. Surviving are: 1 nephew, Elmer (Kendra) Heisler, Jr. of Albion; 2 great-nephews, Mike Heisler and Marc Heisler; and 5 great-great-nieces, Hannah, Taylor, Carrie, Madelyn and Grace Heisler. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry E. Shilts; sister, Ruth Heisler; brother-in-law, Elmer Heisler, Sr.; nephew, Larry Heisler; and great-great-niece, Alexandra Heisler. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2008 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with the Rev. Jack Brown of the Olivet Congregational Church officiating. Interment will be in the Clarence Center Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Olivet Congregational Church. Envelopes available at the funeral home.

My prayers are with your family. Carrie was a very caring person and I enjoyed getting a cahnge to meet her and take apart of her care as she got older the last three years enjoyed getting to know her and her family. I'm sorry for your lose. Nicki
