Walter Edgerton Obituary

Walter L. Edgerton Battle Creek Walter L. Edgerton, 84, of Battle Creek, died Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Evergreen Senior Care and Rehab Center. He was born November 7, 1923 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Walter F. and Margaret (Richardson) Edgerton. Walter was a lifelong resident of the area, graduating from Battle Creek Central High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and attended officer's school at Fort Benning in 1944. Walter owned and operated Edgerton Paint and Glass from 1947 until his retirement. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses and enjoyed studying the Bible. Walter also enjoyed golfing and was a member of Riverside Country Club for 38 years. On July 2, 1942 he was united in marriage to the former LaVinna (Baker) who survives; in July they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Also surviving are his sons: Walter L. (Sandy) Edgerton of Venice, FL and Gregory L. (Mira) Edgerton of Okemos, MI; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Judson and older sister, Maxine Avery. Private services were held at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Arrangements by the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home.
