Suzanne McHolme Obituary
Suzanne H. McHolme Battle Creek Suzanne H. McHolme, age 84, of Battle Creek, died Friday, October 24, 2008, at her residence. Suzanne was born April 20, 1924, in Elizabeth, PA, the daughter of Harmon G. and Anna (Morris) Hart. She was a graduate of Elizabeth High School in 1942 and was active in high school as a May Queen, Prom Queen and a Band Majorette. After graduation she was employed by Continental Insurance Co. of Pittsburgh. During WWII she was employed by U.S. Steel Corporation in the Metallurgical Department. She was active in the Elizabeth Methodist Church in choir, played organ and Sunday school. On August 14, 1946, she was united in marriage to Duncan C. McHolme who was just back from service, they then moved to Houston, Texas. Sue returned to Elizabeth, PA in 1948. Their daughter Bonnie was born in 1948 and their son Robert Glenn was born in 1952. In 1954 they moved to Battle Creek. Sue was employed at the First Presbyterian Church in 1965, retiring in 1997. She was past member and president of Beta Sigma Phi, member and past president of P.E.O. Sisterhood, served as campfire girl and Blue Birds leader. She loved letter writing and communicating with friends and family. Sue liked to read books, especially biographies, puzzles, swimming and journaling. As a member of First Presbyterian Church she served as a Stephen Minister calling on sick members or those who were shut-ins. She is survived by her husband, Duncan Caird McHolme; children, Bonnie Sue (Phil) Humeston of Glen Ellyn, IL, Robert G. (Carol) McHolme of Quincy, MI; 5 grandchildren, Rebecca (Jeff) Smith of Elkhart, IN, Lindsay McHolme of Grand Rapids, Scott and Michael Humeston of Glen Ellyn, IL and Carrie Storm of Oak Creek, WI; and great-grandchildren, Aidan, Connor and Marin Storm. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harmon Glenn Hart, Jr. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. A private family graveside will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey S. Carlson officiating. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the First Presbyterian Church HAFT fund.
