Raymond "Ray" Henry Aubert Raymond Henry Aubert, 89, passed away on February 1, 2009 while in the Lighthouse Palliative Care Program at the VA Medical Center in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was born on July 28, 1919 in St. Marys, Kansas to Myrtle and Henry Aubert. He lived on a farm and was one of nine children. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, was in the National Guard, and served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe, where he was severely wounded in Belgium in 1945. While in the Army, Ray earned the Theater Ribbon with four bronze service stars, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, the American Defense Service Medal, and other awards. He was in hospitals in Europe and then spent three years in United States facilities, most of it in Percy Jones Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan, where he met his future wife. Ray married Geraldine Louise Dunton on July 13, 1951 in Angola, Indiana. He and his wife purchased a new home in 1951 and lived together in this residence for more than 57 years until shortly before his death. He worked for Sears and Roebuck Company in Battle Creek for several years. After retiring from Sears, he was self-employed as a sewing machine repairman. Ray enjoyed his family, hunting and fishing, following sports especially the Detroit Tigers, sitting in his garage watching people go by, and spending time with his grandchildren. Ray is survived by his wife of more than 57 years, Geraldine Aubert of Battle Creek; two stepsons, Thomas (Irma) Dunton of Battle Creek, and James (Judy) Dunton of Las Vegas, Nevada; six grandchildren, Kelly (Mike) Gutsue, Stefanie (Joe) Kinney, Marc Dunton all of Battle Creek, Michigan, Paris Dunton, Ginger Dunton, and Jamie Dunton of Las Vegas, Nevada; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, February 6, 2009, at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Program at the VA Medical Center, Disabled American Veterans or a Charity of One's Choice.
