Oren Starks Obituary

Oren A. Starks Jr. Battle Creek Oren A. Starks Jr. 81, of Battle Creek died Sunday February 15, 2009 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. He was born on July 6, 1927 in Thurmond, WV to Oren A. and Nancy M.(Cantley) Starks Sr. Oren graduated from Mt. Hope High School in Mt. Hope, WV. He then served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. Oren married Sylvia C. Sunday on March 16, 1951, she survives. Oren was employed at Eaton Manufacturing Company from 1968 until 1982 and then JC Penneys at the Lakeview Square Mall from 1983 to 1993. In his earlier years he was employed by the C & O Railroad in Toledo, Sandusky, and Thurmond, WV. He is also survived by a son, Oren A. (Gloria) Starks III, of Fairview, TN; a daughter, Debra K. Nelson, of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Kristen McCoy, Nicole Hutson, and Casey Nelson; five great-grandchildren and one-great-great grandchild. Oren was a member of Wolverine Harmonica Club, Club 27, Eagles Lodge, and Moose Lodge in Marshall. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday February 19, 2009 with Rev. Richard Schlee officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be given to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence or Good Samaritan Hospice.

We are so sorry to hear of the death of Oren. I always looked forward to seeing his smiling face each day when I went in to work at JCPenney. He was a dear man, a great friend and will be greatly missed. He was always a joy to be around. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
