Arda L. Sholes "Artie" Noakes

Arda L. "Artie" Sholes Noakes Battle Creek Arda L. "Artie" Sholes Noakes, 90, of Battle Creek, died on March 26, 2009 at Battle Creek Health System. She was born in Marshall, MI on January 25, 1919 to Daniel and Francis (Auyer) Sholes. She was formerly employed at the Oliver Corporation for three years and then worked privately from home. Arda married the former William "Bill" Noakes on February 16, 1950. Bill died on December 17, 2008. Arda truly loved gardening and tending to her home. She loved animals and fed the strays in the neighborhood. The true love of her life passed away in December and things were never the same. Arda is survived by her daughter, Michele Noakes Mullen of Kalamazoo; two sons, Garry Niebauer of Ohio and Ronald (Jan) Niebauer of Delton, MI; two former daughters-in-law, Chalice Kuchenreuter and Sue Niebauer Weiser; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Hilda Yochim of Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. At the request of Arda, cremation has taken place and an inurnment service for her and her husband, Bill, will take place 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2009 at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make contributions are asked to consider the South Central Michigan Humane Society, 2500 Watkins Rd., Battle Creek, MI.
