Charley Spight Obituary

Reverend Charley Spight Atlanta, GA Reverend Charley E. Spight, 76, of Atlanta, Georgia, formerly of Battle Creek, died Friday, April 3, 2009, in Atlanta. Reverend Spight, son of the late G. B. and Della Spight was born March 29, 1933 in Ripley, Mississippi. He attended the Ripley Public Schools and graduated from Ripley High School. He later attended Kellogg Community College and pursued Religious Studies. He entered the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and received an Honorable Discharge in 1956. He met and later married the former Fannie Williams, October 7, 1957, in Boonville, Mississippi, she survives. Moving to Battle Creek, in 1957, he was employed by the Veterans Administration Medical Center and the Battle Creek Public Schools, before beginning his employment with the Kellogg Company, retiring in 1995, with twenty-two years of service. Reverend Spight was a member of the First Salem Missionary Baptist Church, when he accepted his 'Calling into the Ministry', in 1964, he later served as an Assistant Pastor to Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. In 1966, he accepted the Pastorate of Messiah Baptist Church, in Allegan, Michigan, where he served for eight years. He was a member of the Chain Lake District Association and served as a Missionary for the District until 1999. He later re-joined First Salem Missionary Baptist Church, and served as a Sunday School Teacher and Associate Minister. Prior to moving to Atlanta, he united with New Deliverance Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as Associate Minister. He was a member of the United Community Ministerial Alliance and he enjoyed reading and fishing. Other survivors include, son, Edwin Spight, Snellville, Georgia; daughter, Charlotte (Charles) Eaddy, Atlanta; brothers, A. G. (Bettie) Spight, Paul (Jo) Spight both of Battle Creek, William (Maxine) Spight of Ripley, Mississippi; sisters, Ethelene Hatch, Lexia Stovall both of Ripley, Magnolia Freeman, Grand Rapids; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Arnise Della Spight Rose in 1989; brothers, G. B. Spight, Jr., William Morris Brown; and sisters, Eldora Griffin and, Essie B. Braddock. Visitation, at T M Hughes-Perry Mortuary, Thursday, after 3:00 p.m., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services, 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, Second Missionary Baptist Church, where the Reverend William Wyne is Pastor, and the Reverend Furman Robinson, Pastor, New Deliverance Missionary Baptist Church will officiate.
