Velma Chaney Obituary

Velma J. Chaney Haslett Velma Jean (Forbey) Chaney, age 86, formerly of Battle Creek, died April 21, 2009 in Haslett, MI. She was born December 7, 1922 to George and Susan Forbey in Freeport, MI. Velma Chaney was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of the Randa Vista Club in Bedford Township and spent many years working on elections in Bedford Township. She spent her retirement years in Port Charlotte, Florida where she was an avid golfer. She also enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, knitting, and card-playing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vaughn Harold Chaney in 2001 and son-in-law John T. Viall in 2001. Surviving are her brother, Gerald T. Forbey of Hastings, MI daughters Debbie Viall of Battle Creek and RoAnne Chaney (Nick Prass) of East Lansing, grandsons Gavin and Trent Viall of Battle Creek, and one great-granddaughter, Natalie Grace of Athens, MI. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be held June 27 at the Riverside Cemetery, 1003 W State Rd. Hastings, MI 49058. Those desiring may make contributions in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter, 310 Main Street, Suite 100, Chelsea, MI 48118, or the Michigan Disability Rights Coalition, 3498 E. Lake Lansing Rd., Suite 100, East Lansing, MI 48823 in memory of Velma Chaney. The family is being served by the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing.

Dear Debbie and boys, I am so sorry to hear about your family's loss. As you know, I lost my dad in January, and it is never easy. Please know that my thoughts are with your family. You should remember the good/funny times as a happy reminder. I do this about my dad all the time.
