Richard R. "Hank" Rice Athens Richard R. "Hank" Rice, 70, of Athens died May 8, 2009 at home. He was born February 26, 1939, the son of Russell and Marguerite (Russell) Rice in Bellevue. Hank served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked as a barber at Family Barber Shop in Union City as well as for Kellogg's. Hank was preceded in death by his wife, Eva (Baird) Rice on May 8, 2001; his parents; stepfather, Lloyd Pyke; son, Craig A. Rice; and brother, James A. Rice. He is survived by his children, Richard L. Rice, Gary R. (Carol) Rice, Cheryl L. (Lonnie) Head and James L. (Trisha) Rice, all of Athens; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Paul (Helen) Rice of Bellevue; and sister, Marjorie (Ted) Millard of Battle Creek. Hank played AAA baseball and excelled in basketball in Battle Creek and still enjoyed watching baseball and basketball as well as watching his grandchildren play sports. He also enjoyed reading. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4:00 p.m. and 6 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue. Services will take place 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the funeral home with Pastor Sandy Gastian, Athens United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment, Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.
