Vic will be missed by his old Jackson Chess friends. Vic always made time for people in his life. I recall going to a Def Leopard pyromania concert in 1983 with Vic. Vic was fun ! We went to the Michigan State vs North Dakota finals at Joe Louis Arena in 1987. Played many chess games and held the Jackson championship tournaments at the old house on Michigan Ave. Vic was a true friend always thinking of others.

I will never forget Vic playing chess at the Jackson Chess Club when it was at the YMCA. I also played at his home and laffed while Vic showed his black toy poodle Newt the finer points of the game. :] One time Vic invited about 12 chess guys to a BBQ. We sat in this huge screen in building to keep the misquitos at bay. Once I was playing Vic at his home and we confronted a bat but Vic knew exactly what to do. He grabbed his trusty tennis racket! I will always remember Vic forever.

To the Filip family,

I am sorry for your loss. I had the opportunity to join him for a few sporting events at Michigan State University and Victor was a most gracious host. He was a very kind person and an avid Spartan fan.

I pray that the Lord would comfort all of you during this time.

Dear Filip Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Vic's passing. It came as quite a shock to me; when my brother Phil, called & told me the sad news. I imagine your loss is tremendously severe. My prayers are with you and sweet Vic.
As I recall, Vic & I dated in the mid-70's to mid-80's. We were young & full of life! I have a special place in my heart for Vic. He was the most generous man. Amoungst our friends he was known for making the best rotisserie chicken, He WAS the master. We had shared wonderful times together; concerts, dinners, family gatherings, church, tennis & friends, etc. God bless Vic.
God bless you all.

Dear Filip family,

I have been a friend of Vic's since 1986 when I returned from the military, I met Vic at a singles event and I played chess with him, and he was the only person I could never beat. He also was the person who introduced me to MI State and I attended my first football game since I was 9. He also invited me many times to your family home in Ierlochen and we had some good times. There is an old saying that one person can make a difference in someone's life. Well Vic did that for me. I will miss him dearly. There are many stories I can tell but I just wanted to let you know what he meant to me, Please accept my deepest sympathy and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Mrs. Filip, Don, Joe, Tom, John & Chickie,

Please accept our deepest sympathy at Vic's passing. Vic was one of my closest friends growing up. From our days at Queen's and St. Mary's we sure had a blast together. Fondly, I recall the times Vic would invite me to join your family up at Interlochen where we would explore the area and get into mischief. Losing Vic is like closing a chapter in my life, which I am not prepared to do just yet.

Unfortunately, we are at Beaver Island right now and will not be back down state until later and will miss the funeral but please know that we will offer our Sunday Mass up in Vic's memory and will also keep you in our prayers during this difficult time.

May God be with you always.

Respectfully,

July 30, 2009

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Filip family. I have not seen Victor in several years but I will always remember him as a good friend and the U of M football games.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was very saddened to hear of Victor's passing. Although I did not know Victor well I knew him to be a gentle man and a man of few words. When he did speak to me I realized what a beautiful voice he had and hoped he would share it more often.

The best memory I have of him is the time that I was in the grocery store and as I was looking at a grocery item I heard someone say "Hi Barb". When I looked up I didn't see anyone. I looked back behind me and I saw Victor walking down the aisle pushing his cart. Then I realized he had, indeed, said hello to me and knew me by name which brought a smile to my face and warmed my heart.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in Victor's untimely passing and the loss of your loved one.
