Catarino "Cata" Ramon

Catarino "Cata" Ramon Battle Creek Catarino "Cata" Ramon, age 86, of Battle Creek, passed away September 4, 2009. Cata was born November 17, 1922 in Goldfinch, TX the son of Valentin and Serafina (Sanches) Ramon. He married Geraldine Gillett in 1953 and she survives. Cata worked at Oliver's until it closed, Clark Equipment until it left Battle Creek, and retired from Christman Screen Printing. After he retired, Cata drove cars for Galesburg Ford and Seelye Wright Kia. Cata was honorably discharged from the US Army after being stationed in England from 1943 to 1945. He loved baseball, spending time with his grandchildren, hunting and fishing. Besides his wife Geraldine, Cata is survived by his children: Dawn Campbell of Battle Creek, Darrel (Deanna) Ramon of Chapel Hill, TN, and Gerry (Phil) Gagnon of Battle Creek; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; his sister: Carol (Russ) Cohen of Battle Creek; and his brothers: Moises "Moy" Ramon of Battle Creek, and Valentin "Tino" Ramon of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Jesus "Jessie" and Ismael "Manuel" Ramon; and his sister: Linda Colby. A funeral service for Cata will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at the Royal Funeral Home Battle Creek with Pastor Philip Griffin officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta with full military honors. Memorials in Cata's name may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or to the United Way.
