James Hoesing Obituary

James A. Hoesing Battle Creek James A. Hoesing, 66, died Wednesday, October 14, 2009. He was born August 22, 1943 in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of Julius Sylvester and Alverda Frances (Tigges) Hoesing. Jim was a graduate of St. Philip High School, attended the University of Nebraska, Kellogg Community College and Olivet College. He taught welding at Kellogg Community College for several years, retired from the Kellogg Company in June of 1996 following 28 years of service and was a member of the 25 Year Club. Jim served in the U.S. Air Force from October of 1963 until October of 1967 stationed in Vietnam where he was an aircraft mechanic. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, lifetime member of the National Street Rod Association and longtime member of Southern Michigan Street Rod Association. Jim enjoyed woodworking, building street rods and writing poetry. He was previously married to Nguyen Nhu Tranthi. On August 16, 1975 he was married to Patricia A. (Armstrong), who survives. Also surviving are three daughters: Jolene Rose (Steven) Hoesing Thompson, Dr. Julia Kathrina (David) VanderMolen and Jennifer Marie Glover; six grandsons: Trevor, Logan, Blake, Trent, Lane and Braydon; seven sisters: Janet (Tom) Hall, Jean (Ron) Perkins, Joyce (Brian) Ahlquist, June (Jack) Carlile, Joletta Hoesing, Jerellen Fisher and Jacque (Darrell) Rattenborg; brothers-in-law: Bill Sage and Leonard Nietzel and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Judy Sage and Joan Nietzel. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Rev. Craig Lusk officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Knights of Columbus.
