Dear Emily,
I was so distressed to hear from Roger and Benedicte the shocking news of Nick's death. Although I didn't know him well, I always enjoyed his company on those occasions when we were together. He was, by all accounts, a fine man. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your children, Alex and all of Nick's family.

Em Dear,
Tom and I were sitting on a chair lift in Alta with Nick last year. Most everyone (including Nick) was skiing all the exciting slopes, but Nick took some time out to ski the "groomed" trails with us. There was a snow storm in the East and Tom and my flight was cancelled -- everyone was frantically trying to get an alternate flight. Nick had a seat on the first non-stop back to Boston and offered it to us. Just two examples of many on how thoughtful Nick was. ANYthing that any of the Atkinsons can do, just let us know.
Tons of love,
Sam

To Nick's beloved family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of your great loss. May the Peace of our Lord and the Grace of God give you strength and sustain you.
May God Bless and Keep Nick, and make His Face shine upon Nick always.
I know Nick from hockey & the Cambridge Skating Club. He brought so much to the game. I and all his hockey compadres were fortunate to have been graced with the wonderful experience of having him as part of the group and having the wonderful experience of playing with him, whether you were fortunate enough to have him on your team on any given night, or whether he was on the opposing team, which of course meant that you would have to bring out your very best to rise to the chalenge of playing against him and his teamates that night. He will be sorely missed by all of us.

Nick's smile and kindness will be impossible to forget. I met Nick and his brothers when my sister Christina and I started spending summers in Nova Scotia as young girls. I always admired the way those brothers got along and made each other laugh. I send love and deepest sympathy to Nick's family and all those who loved him.

Our family fondly remembers Nick as the outstanding student of Suzuki violin at the Hartford Conservatory of Music when he was just a boy. Our sons, Eric, Andy and Martin all went to Hall High with Nick.
At this time we especially empathize with our friend David Rhinelander and with Muriel's Hall High friend David Hurwitz.
This is an unbelievable tragedy, and our hearts go out to all of you.

From all of us at Harvard Skiing,
Nick will always be with us in our hearts and minds and actions; and we pray for his family, Emily, Elizabeth and James. His love for his family and life were unmatched. Nick was the kind of person you meet once in a lifetime. So Nick, thank you; thank you for everything. You have touched my life in a way no other will ever duplicate. You were, and still are, one of the most amazing people I have ever had the privilege of knowing and my life is better for having you in it. You will be forever with me my friend…
