Andrew D. Russoli Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 23, 2005.
As a child, Andrew D. Russoli played with G.I. Joes and did reconnaissance in the back yard. "He used to dress up in camouflage, and he and his friends used to go to the creek and play 'creek control' and look for the bad guys," said his mother, Sally White. Russoli, 21, of Greensboro, N.C., was killed Oct. 20 near Nasser Wa Salaam by an explosion. He was assigned to Camp Lejeune. "I think he was born to do this, just not for as long as I thought," White said. "He was a very good son. He gave the greatest bear hugs you could ever want." He was a poet with an infectious laugh who was always on the lookout for sublime movie quotes. Russoli, who graduated from high school in 2003, was serving his second tour. He had previously been awarded a Purple Heart for injuries he received during his first tour, when a roadside bomb caused his vehicle to flip upside-down. Russoli was a trombone player in his middle school jazz band. When he was 10, he learned how to fence. When there were no students his age to compete against, he fenced against adults _ and won. He also is survived by his father, Roland.

Andrew and I were good pen-pals and talked on the phone quite a bit when he was in Iraq serving. When I didn't hear from him for a while, I got a sick feeling to my stomach. When I found out, I was so sad and shocked. I feel very honored to have had his friendship. I have never forgotten him and never will. His honor lives on and I often think of him and his family. I do not know his family but please know that your son was a great person and that he loved you very much. All my best, all my prayers and thoughts of love.

In Memory of Andrew ~ (Debra Estep)

October 20, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Andrew, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Russoli Family,
My son trained with your son before they left for boot camp and also knew him in school. Keith told me how Andrew was so much fun and so encouraging to be around, a bit of friendly competion during their workouts together. I met you Mrs. Russoli, at the grave side recently, as I mourned for you and your loss and honored Andrew's memory. Words cannot express the feelings of gratefulness for this country's freedoms and the sacrifice your son and others have made. I honor you and all those who have served. America, Land of the Free, Because of the Brave, Thankyou Veterans, Semper Fi Son.

Our condolences, thoughts and prayers for your families loss...may Andrewes name clutched in the tallons. And spirit forever soar in the symbol of our great nation.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

RUSTY WAS A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE BACK IN 2/2 WPNS, CAAT PLT. I DEPLOYED ALONG TWICE WITH ANDREW TO IRAQ AND HE IS AMONG THE BEST MARINES I'VE SERVED WITH. I REMEMBER WHEN I FIRST GOT TO CAAT PLATOON. I WOUND UP BEING THE ONLY ONE FROM THE GROUP WHO WENT TO WPNS. DID'NT REALLY KNOW ANYONE, BUT ANDREW WAS ONE OF THE THE FIRST I MET AFTER I WENT TO JAVELINS. HE WAS ALWAYS IN KIND SPIRIT, REALLY MADE ME LAUGH. I THINK OF HIM WHEN I REFLECT ON IRAQ AND I MISS HIM. BUT I KNOW HE'S IN HEAVEN, PROBABLY STILL LAUGHING AT ME CAUSE HE SHOT THE JAVELIN! LOL!! FAREWELL MY FRIEND AND "STELLAR JAVELIN." YOU WILL BE WITH ME ALWAYS. GOOD BLESS THE RUSSOLI FAMILY.

Andrew was a good friend of mine. I knew him for about a year and for the time I knew him he would always make me laugh. He always had a smile on his face. Andrew and I would always do the voice of the ginger bread man on the movie shrek and use quotes out of the movie or one he and I would make up just to lighten the mood or just to clown around and make people laugh. He was a great marine, a great friend and a greater man. my heart goes out to his family for their loss but know that one day we will all be with him once again! I know he is still with us in spirit and is watching us and looking out for all of us. I'll never forget you andrew You were a great friend and we will meet again someday! SEMPER FI!!!

What can I say about Andrew that has not already been said???

He was brave, sweet, humorous, a good Marine.

My son, Ricky, went to school with him, boot camp and Iraq (twice).

He never called me by my name only "Ricky's Mom".

I will miss his laugh and his mischievousness.

Now he has the honor of making all of heaven laugh!

Semper Fi Andrew...we will miss you until we meet again!

Please watch over all your Marine brothers until they are all safely home again.

We love you Andrew...our thoughts and prayers are with your Mom and family always.

God bless all our Marines and other military.

To Andrew's family and friends-

My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.

They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

Yesterday, Today, Forever – Semper Fi - Marines!

Our sincerest gratitude for their bravery-

Some of the best memories I have involve Andrew, mostly because of ROTC, and how we all stuck together. Spring break of our freshman year, when Andrew and Marlin rolled themselves into the sand, rising up afterwards as "sugar cookies", that is one of the best pictures I own, and have kept in my wallet for quite a time. I know I am going to miss hanging out with Russoli, mostly because I already do. Coming home to Greensboro and visiting just won't be the same anymore, because not everyone will be there now, one of us is already guarding the gates above. Semper Fi, Russoli, and thank you for being one of the most genuine persons I have ever known. Sally, Roland, thanks to you for raising such a wonderful individual, for that is what Andrew is, and forever will be.

To the family of LCpl. Russoli, you have my deepest sympathy. I did not know Andrew, but as a fellow Marine(Vietnam, '68,69) he is a brother. I know it is hard to accept that he is gone, but take heart that the qualities that made him a Marine did not just come from Boot Camp, his upbringing, and the values taught to him by his family contributed to what he became. I know it is hard to take pride in the fact he made the ultimate sacrifice, but realize we will all see each other someday, then I can salute Andrew, and shake his hand, and say well done Marine, and to you I say Semper Fi. Andrew was a wonderful young man who warmed our hearts with his smiles and hugs. He was an inspiration to us and a very positive influence on our children. He will live on in our hearts, and we will forever be grateful for the opportunity to have known him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sally and Roland.

I never thought it would end this way. You were such an awesome friend and I laugh everytime I think of some of the things we did together. We had such a blast and I know someday we will be hanging out again. Until then God bless and I salute you.

Andrew was a great friend and a boy-friend, even though we dated when he was a Freshmen and I was a Junior in High School. He always new how to make a person laugh and new how to joke around. I enjoyed spending Christmas of 1999 with him and his family. He always wanted to be a Marine and IU wanted to go into the Navy back then. I remeber that I wanted to go play in the woods with everyone else but I couldn't go with them because I was a girl, they just weren't made for combat. When we started dating I remember his friends getting mad because the couldn't go out to play as much because of me. So we broke up so that he could follow his dream, and I can go on with my dreams. He always valued what I wanted and I di with him, we became great friends after that and had a new understanding for our friendship. He was a great friend that had touched my life, the world has lost a great man, but he was doing what he loved to do. i will miss you and will always love you in my heart.

Love,

I was good friends with Andrew in Highschool, and I was also in the DEP program for the Marines with him. I can remember going to the poolee functions with our recruiter and Andrew would laugh and just have fun; he was so anxious to get through bootcamp and become a Marine... and when he came to my house right after he graduated bootcamp, he was so proud to be wearing those Dress Blues. He loved what he did, even when I talked to him online just a few days before the tragedy he was still making jokes and making me laugh. I was so proud of him. And I will forever be so proud of him. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone suffering.

Dear Mr. Roland Russoli and Family,

There are NO words to express the sorrow I feel for your loss of Andrew. Even though I never had the chance to meet him I know he will be remembered as a great son, a great brother, a great friend and a brave hero. I pray that God will provide each of you strength and comfort during this difficult time. My love and thoughts are with you.

Andrew will always always always hold a special place in my heart. He was always one to call me up to see if he could take me to McDonald's just to get the toy in the happy meal, he knew I loved happy meals! :)! No matter what you were doing, where you were, how you felt, or who you were with, Andrew had a special way of taking over your heart and have the best conversations with you, he could make you laugh when you only felt like crying, and make you smile when you didn't think you could. He always wrote the best letters, even though it was extremely horrible over there he always managed to joke around on paper and it would always make me laugh out loud. He was so brave, and so strong...I tried to tell him everytime I talked to him, to be careful and to come home soon, but atleast I know he's safe now. I won't ever forget Andrew and the impact he made on my life, hes not only one of my very good friends, hes my hero. I look up to him and try to have half as much courage as he did. He will be greatly missed and always loved. To all of his family and friends, you all are in my heart, thoughts, and prayers at this time.

To Sally White and Roland Rusolli,

I can only imagine the pain you are feeling at this time. What a lovely young man he was. I know you are very proud of what Andrew did for his country and for mankind, but I know this doesn't take away the intense pain of losing your child. Know that he is whole with God now. You are lovingly in my thoughts and prayers.

Andrew held a very special place in my heart. I've prayed for him contiuously since he was first deployed. To be so young and so brave and to pay this price makes me feel so honored to have my freedom. His death has changed so much for me and my heart aches for his family.

To the Family and Friends of your loved one, Lance Cpl. Russoli

We are just getting our lives back in order after losing our beloved Granddaughter, A1C Elizabeth N. Jacobson, who lost her life in Iraq, 9-28-05, but want you to know that your child will not be forgotten and hope that you will be as proud of him for serving as we were of Elizabeth. Without our children this Country would not be what it is today, whether from the first War for freedom until today's wars, we give our lives so Freedom can be obtained. I wish it was different, but unfortunately, it is going to be someone's loved one. May G-d bless our troops, and hopefully, someday Freedom and Peace will reign.

May God bless you in a very special way, as He took a very special person from this world to be with Him. I thank God every day for men like your son who are willing to fight for our freedom and the freedom of oppressed nations. I know Andrew has made a difference in every life he has touched. God bless everyone in his family

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they

protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they

perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus,

our Lord and Savior. Amen.
