Condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues. I'm a reader, a somewhat-late-in-life lesbian from New York. I especially like the short stories "Middle Children" and "A Perfectly Nice Man"--with quiet irony, Jane portrayed lesbians who were "just people".

Jane and Helen were both delightful and charming people; they unhesitatingly welcomed and comforted my parents in November 1982 after a disasterous house fire on the island. Jane's leaving is the end of a very long and benevolent era on Galiano. We will all miss her.

I am sure that your spirit will be with us this Solstice. Thank you for being you. I appreciated meeting and talking with you, even tho...the roast was too rare for me at the Christmas dinner...the company was delightful as you were.

One of my most pleasant memories from UBC was taking an English class from Ms. Rule. Having been an engineering student at the time, I place my "A" in her class at the top of my accomplishments. She was a great teacher. I wish I had an opportunity over the years to have spoken to her again.
