Barbara Bell Obituary

CHATHAM — Barbara Burgess Bell, 84, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Liberty Commons in Chatham, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Evanston, Ill., and raised in Montclair, N.J., she graduated from Montclair High School in 1943. In 1944, she married Graham Bell, born and raised in Montclair, and was widowed in 1972. During her years in Montclair, she was active in the Junior League, in particular in the League's Children's Theater. She moved to Cape Cod in 1977 to join her mother and sister. She lived in Chatham and worked as a home health aide for the Chatham VNA until retirement.

The daughter of Lyman T. Burgess and Harriet Noel Burgess, she is survived by her three children, Jeffrey Graham Bell (Katherine) of Haverford, Pa., Laurie Bell Newhouse (Robert) of Austin, Texas, and Nantucket, and Herbert Graham Bell II (Valerie) of Harwich Port; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Aug. 31 at 2:30 p.m., at Harwich United Methodist Church in Harwich. Her ashes will be spread over the ocean off Cape Cod and interred in the Bell family plot at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Upper Montclair, N.J.
