Lucille Schwarz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 1, 2008.
EAST ORLEANS — Lucille Palmer Schwarz passed away on Sept. 25, 2008.

Born in New York City on Nov. 14, 1924, to Major Lewis R. Palmer and Lucy Feaster Palmer, she graduated from Briarcliff High School in New York and went on to earn a degree from New York School of Interior Design. She worked in New York City at Foote, Cone, and Belding for many years thereafter. She met Q. John (Jack) Schwarz on a holiday weekend at the Jug End Barn in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. They married on St. Patrick's Day in 1951.

Lucille had many diverse interests. She logged in many hours at Westchester County Airport and was very close to obtaining her pilot's license. She had a love of antiques, which she acquired growing up attending auctions in Vermont with her mother, and later became an antiques dealer. She also loved golf and belonged to Eastward Ho Country Club in Chatham.

Lucille and Jack decided to leave the corporate life after vacationing on Cape Cod and purchased the Nauset House Inn in East Orleans. Lucille's love of antiques and design were put to good use when she discovered a 1902 Conservatory, which she added to the Inn. It was so exceptional that it made the front page of the Cape Codder and was the site for many weddings and celebrations. After 14 fun-filled years, they decided to sell. They built their dream house and Lucille became a real estate broker for Orleans Real Estate, which later became Prudential.

She is survived by two nieces, Pamela Callahan of New York and Susan Miller of Vermont; four nephews, Robert Arnold and Peter Arnold, both of Vermont, Grayson Schwarz and Walker Schwarz, both of Connecticut. She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Q. John "Jack" Schwarz, and her sister, Esther Palmer Arnold of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at 10 a.m., at 33 Herringbrook Way, Orleans.
