STUART, Fla. — Patricia A. (Shaw) Thorn, 87, of Stuart, Fla., formerly of Wellesley and New Seabury, Mass., died peacefully on Oct. 10, 2008, at home, surrounded by her loving children.

She was the beloved wife of 61 years to the late John B. Thorn. She was a loving mother, who is survived by her children, Mary Frances Connors and her husband Maurice Jr. of Holliston, Mass., Christopher Thorn and his wife Debbie of Bowling Green, Ky., Rosemary Whalen and her husband Mark of Canton, Mass., and Michael Thorn and his wife Lauri of Collierville, Tenn. She is survived by her sister, Rosemary Gregory of Florida. Her greatest joy in life was the time spent with her family, including 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The Thorn family would like to extend thanks to the circle of care at BIDMC, Hospice of the Good Shepherd, the Irish Connection, and Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home for compassionately caring for Patricia during her final days.

Originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., Pat lived in Wellesley Hills for more than 30 years, where she raised her family. She enjoyed many rounds of golf as a member of the Framingham, Brae Burn, and New Seabury country clubs in Massachusetts, and Miles Grant in Stuart, Fla. She was an active homemaker who was also a Wellesley selectman, an active member of the Republican party, a Girl Scout leader at St. Paul's School, a member of the Elm Bank Garden Club, a volunteer at the Newton Wellesley Hospital Gift Shop, and a communicant at Christ the King Church in Mashpee.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass at Christ the King Church, Mashpee, Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 505 N. Parkway, Memphis, TN 38103, or to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2042 Beacon St., Newton, MA 02468. Arrangements are by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, Canton.

So sorry to read of your mom's passing ! I know it must be a very difficult time; it is never easy losing a parent.

We were so sorry to hear of the passing of Pat. From 1977 to 1981 we had the pleasure of being next door neighbors of Pat and John. What a delight and what a wonderful family they raised. After 27 years we still can hear her cheery greeting. May she rest in peace.
