Helen Darrah Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 16, 2008.
SANDWICH — Helen (Quinlan) Darrah, of Sandwich, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at the age of 93. Her final days were blessed by the comfort and dignity provided by the care of VNA Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod.

Helen was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Darrah, also of Sandwich. She is survived by her nephew, John Horgan of Cape Coral, Fla., seven grand nieces, many great-grand nieces and nephews, and numerous extended family and friends.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Ellen (Hadigan) Quinlan. She was raised in Somerville and Arlington, and remained dedicated to her mother until her passing in 1968. She was predeceased by her sister, Catherine (Quinlan) Horgan, and nephew, Albert Horgan.

Helen was one of the original staff at the Polaroid Company, working for Dr. Land for more than 25 years. In retirement, she and Joe were very active members of their communities through church, civil organizations, charities and with friends and neighbors.

They made Sandwich their home in 1982 and formed strong community bonds through the Corpus Christi Parish, Sandwich Arts and Crafts Association, and several local charitable organizations.

Helen loved beauty in all forms; beautiful flowers, paintings, music, or places and shared her gift of gratitude with all whom she touched.

Visitation will be Oct. 16, 2008, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich. Funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at 11 a.m., at Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road, East Sandwich.

Gifts in her memory may be made to Corpus Christi Parish or VNA Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
