Steven Higgins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 23, 2008.
HARWICH — Steven W. Higgins, 32, of Harwich passed on Oct. 19, 2008. He was the son of James W. Higgins of North Eastham and Linda J. (Witkowski) Higgins of Harwich.

Steve lived on the Cape most of his life and worked at several local restaurants and as a finish woodworker. He was a 1994 graduate of Nauset Regional High School and majored in art at Cape Cod Community College. He enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing and surfing and other outdoor activities. From his childhood, he was always interested in 4-wheelers, motorcycles and RC cars. During quiet times, he enjoyed reading and sketching.

He leaves a half-brother, Mark Russell, and nephew Zachary Russell from Baldwinville. He also leaves two uncles, Chet (Joe) Witkowski of Paxton and Francis Higgins of Brewster. In addition, he leaves many good friends and cousins, and especially his "Aunt Di" Wilson of Worcester.

We invite all his friends and family to join us for a memorial visitation on Sunday, Oct. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park, Orleans. At 4 p.m., we will be receiving comforting words from local clergy.

If you wish to make a donation in his name, you may do so to the Brewster Animal Rescue League, 3981 Main St. Route 6A, Brewster, MA 02631, or to the Family Pantry, 133 Queen Anne Road, Harwich MA 02645.

Steve buddy. Looks like your guest book is going to be ended soon, I to say good by one more time and I wanted to tell you thank you for being a friend and a part of all of our lives. The greater scheme of life is more complex for any of us to understand but I hope one day I will have the privilege of you explaining it to me. I feel the journey of life goes beyond the short time we all seem to have here on earth so I wish you safe travels. God bless you and your family.

With love to Steve, Linda and Jim,

Keith George

Linda and Jimmy~
I know I cannot say anything to make the pain go away. I am so very sorry about your loss. It's a loss for all of us. I am just trying to remember all the fun times we all had together. Ive known Steve (wiggins) just about all of his life. I have many funny memories from him at age 5 being just like the kid on "home alone" to the Ice Cream Truck to the Broken Coffee Table............there are so many I cant list them all but it is the great memories that will help ease your pain. Just know you are loved and missed and Steve will always be in all of our hearts.

I hadn't seen Steve in about 10 years or so. But the last time I did, he still had that smile! A smile so great it could disarm anyone! One that would let anyone know what kind of person he was. I grew up with Steve and I have to say he is in some of my favorite memories. I will never forget carpooling to pre-school with him, sitting in the back of my mother's station wagon, singing and smiling!
My heart felt wishes to the Higgins family,

Steve and I used to pal around N. Eastham when we were kids-riding bikes and eating ice cream. It is clear he shared wonderful memories with so many others - he will be missed greatly. To Steven's family, please accept my heartfelt sympathy. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Dear Steve,
After reading all the entries in your guest book, I see just how much you were loved, by so many people.
We all tried to help you with your struggles and demons, and often times really believed that we "got through" to you. Giving us hope that what we said helped you on the road towards happiness and relief.
Now I realize that although, outwardly, you seemed happy, you had a great fight going on inside, that I nor anyone else could help you win. I am so sorry for that failure.
You were loved by many but sometimes love just isn't enough.
Now you're in God's arms where you're, finally, safe, secure and happy. And I'll look forward to the day that we meet again.
With all my love, your "Aunt Di"
