Nicole Phillips-Ashley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 19, 2010.
MARSTONS MILLS — Nicole Phillips-Ashley of Marstons Mills passed peacefully in the early morning hours of Jan. 15, 2010 after a short but very courageous battle against breast cancer.

She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Nina (née Dobrenchuk) Parrotta and a native of Chelsea, Mass.

Some of her most cherished memories were of spending every summer at the family's home in Falmouth Heights.

Nikki was a true lover of life whose passions included spending time with her family and many friends, travel, offroading and bonfires at Sandy Neck Beach, photography and various holistic healing arts.

Through her work as the housing coordinator of Baybridge Clubhouse and with over 15 years in Narcotics Anonymous, she was able to touch innumerable lives with her unfailing compassion and strength. Nikki also shared herself with others as a Reiki master and a certified Kriya massage therapist.

She is survived by her husband David V. Ashley; daughter, Alix Phillips of New York, N.Y.; stepdaughters, Grace, Iris and Annabelle Ashley of Cape Cod; sister, Theodora Pawlak of Gaithersburg, Md. and family; brother, Guy Parrotta of Saugus and family; former husband Thomas of Brookline and his mother, Rosemarie Phillips of Chelsea; brother-in-law, Glenn Ashley of Eastham and family; extended family scattered all over the United States and the unbelievable number of friends she had collected throughout the years who had become her second family.

The family would like to offer their immense gratitude to the staff of Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, RHCI and the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, and all others who helped Nikki throughout her journey.

A Celebration of Life will be held Jan. 23 at the Unity Church of the Light which is located at 147 Walton Ave. in Hyannis. All who were blessed enough to know her are welcome to attend the service which will commence at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following organizations as Nikki had requested: Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod/McCarthy Care Center, Friends of Baybridge, and Angel House.

Nature

As a fond mother, when the day is o'er,
Leads by the hand her little child to bed,
Half willing, half reluctant to be led,
And leave his broken playthings on the floor,
Still gazing at them through the open door,
Nor wholly reassured and comforted
By promises of others in their stead,
Which, though more splendid, may not please him more;
So Nature deals with us, and takes away
Our playthings one by one, and by the hand
Leads us to rest so gently, that we go
Scarce knowing if we wish to go or stay,
Being too full of sleep to understand
How far the unknown transcends the what we know.

Dave and Girls,
I am so sad for you and your family. Nikki mentored me @ Clubhouse and I am forever grateful. She was more than a friend, and I have been so blessed to have worked with her. She shared her GRAVY recipe, the Clubhouse way, her Chelsea "tock" and her support and guidance. Nikki saved so many peoples lives, and held everyone accountable for their actions, or in-actions. I am a better person just from knowing her.
I hope the wonderful memories that you have will bring you all comfort during this difficult time.

Dear David and girls--
Words cannot describe all the wonderful things that Nikki Provided for us here at the clubhouse. She was a friend, mentor, advocate, and always tried to bring people to there fullest capability. She strongly thought that everyone had something offer. No matter the circumstances she never gave up. She believed in 2nd 3rd or 4 chances.

For me she provided so much. She taught me to live to the fullest. Spend time to smell the flowers even if they didn't even smell so good.
She never ever gave up on me.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know such an amazing women. I strongly believe that each and everyone of us has Nikki inside our hearts and minds guiding us in the right direction. She is now looking over all of us steering us away from the inturblent times that life can throw at us.

You all are in my thoughts, prayers and well wishes on a daily basis now.

Love---

Justin

David,

I am so sorry to hear about Nikki. I've known you since you were a kid growing up with my brothers in Osterville and had the pleasure of meeting Nikki at Baybridge when Paul was involved with the program. She was so good to Paul and a wonderful asset to Baybridge.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
