John Gaughen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 5, 2007.
BRIDGTON, Maine - John Francis Gaughen, 44, peacefully passed away at the Hospice House in Auburn, Maine, on April 2, 2007, after a valiant battle with a long illness.

He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth A. (Lisa Turner) Gaughen; loving father of Robert C. Gaughen, 13; and stepfather of Melissa J. Davenport, 30 of Nashua N.H.; and Specialist Christopher D. Horton, 28, of Dennis, home on emergency leave from Iraq; and a proud grandfather of 5.

He was the eldest son of Richard Francis and Virginia Chapman Gaughen of Plymouth, Mass. He is also survived by two brothers, Andrew Powers Gaughen of California, and Marc Chapman Gaughen of Quincy, Mass.

He was an avid model railroad enthusiast and rail fan, and he loved competition shooting. Motorcycling offered him a short reprieve from his health concerns, allowing him the freedom he now enjoys.

Funeral services will be held in the Nickerson Funeral Home, Orleans, on Friday, April 6, at 1 p.m., with visiting hours from 11 to 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, East Harwich.

I can't thank the Hospice House, Auburn, Maine, enough for the loving care of my husband and their continued diligence with my family and myself. Please send any donations to the Hospice House, via The Nickerson Funeral Home, PO Box 397, Orleans MA 02653.

Dear Jini and Dick,
It is so very unbelievable to me that John Francis' name was heard around the world. He was loved by so many people. You should be very proud.

As hard as it was to let John go I know in my heart he is at peace and free of the pain and limitations of his physical being here. He fought the good fight, he gave it his all. He was sweet, gallant, and very Irish. Did I say stubborn? He would call me his "other wife". He had a great sense of humor. He loved to laugh. He had many facets. He lived life to the fullest. An example for us all. 'til we meet again my dear friend.

We were truly sorry to hear about John's passing away. We barely got to know him during the wedding functions in October, but he seemed so very loved by his family.

We all know too well a parent should never bury a child, and our hearts goes out to John's parents, his brothers, wife, children and grandchildren.

John, my brother by soul and spirit, my heart is empty and I miss him terribly. He was a warm and caring person and enjoyed life to the fullest, but mostly his love for Lisa was endless. I wish him a happy and safe journey and he will always be engraved in my heart and soul. Farewell John, love you tons.
