Jonah so loved his family and all his Christian friends.
He loved to fly and he especially felt honored to serve his country.
But we know he gave that honor to God and whenever possible,
he wanted to talk of his Christianity with his traveling companions
and whenever he was able, with his fellow soldiers.
Oh our dear beloved Jonah! You were a hero to so many people.
You've touched the lives of all you came in contact with. You were so
unselfish and so strong in your faith. You let your light shine wherever you went, and were such a good example to those you knew.
Our merciful Father loved you so much that he has taken you home
at a young age and now you are our anchor in heaven.
Our hope now is that it won't be so long before we can
greet you and hug you in the heaven of glory.
Our dear, dear husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandson,
nephew and friend - of all that are gathered, we know that you are
the happiest now. And we want to have the strength to rejoice
that you have won that crown that we are all striving for.
And we also hope that if anyone here or abroad that
doesn't have that full assurance of their soul's destination -
that they could find this saving faith which you held so precious.
And we want to thank God for allowing us to have Jonah
with us for the time that He did.
Goodbye, dear Jonah - until we meet again.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the McClellan Family know that we recently made a small donation to the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation in honor of Jonah D. McClellan US Army Chief Warrant Officer 2. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

I miss you both, my dear brother and my dear friend! <3

To the family of Chief Warrant Officer Jonah McClellan:

As you may know, the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation has honored your loved one at its Memorial Day Sunday worship service (each year in May) … since the time of your fallen hero's ultimate sacrifice. We will continue to pay tribute to our nation's veterans … lest we ever forget!

Now we would like to honor you … as the next-of-kin … who have also paid a great price on the altar of liberty. On Sunday 29 September at 11:00 a.m. we will host a Gold Star Family Sunday.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship … as we pay tribute to your sacrifice. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain (Colonel-Retired) Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “By Dying, We Live.” The special music will be the husband/wife vocal/piano — Wickman Duo. Following the worship experience, your family is invited to attend a social time in our Fellowship Hall … with some light refreshments.

As this historic chapel has limited seating, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org

If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

To the family of Chief Warrant Officer Jonah McClellan:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.

The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).

As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/286-7296) or email the office ([email protected]) and leave your name and contact information.

Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Saturday 25 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sunday, 26 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.

If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

Jonah,
Remembering you, with red white and blue,
We'll never forget, you are an honored vet.
But we have greater reason, to think of you each season.
You're now in God's land, and you sing in His band.
Of angels in white, Yes! you've won the great fight.

On this Veterans Day I think of that ultimate sacrifce that Jonah gave for our country. Thanks to all his family and friends who supported him as he proudly served the USA. God Bless and keep you all in His care.

November 10, 2010

When I read the article in the Columbian the day after Jonah's funeral, I was overwhelmed by the realization that thousands of people all over the world could read that article, and those truthful words could be what leads one or many to seek living faith. If one soul is led to search for and find peace because of Jonah's death- that's even more worthwhile than his and his family's great sacrifice for our country. Nina and children, Rod, Leona, and all who loved Jonah: Thank you for supporting Jonah in his dream. I believe God used him to touch many people wherever he went, and even now that he is at rest, his memory will touch many more. May God give you strength, comfort, and peace for each day. You’re in our prayers.

We are most often touched by those individuals who show courage and strength beyond that of our own. And their death is not an end to that. Let the memories of Jonah live on forever in our hearts. May God be with all those who are mourning his passing from this world into the next; especially his dear wife and children, father and mother.

Dearest Nina w/yours, Rod & Leona, and all the family of dear Jonah. My heart aches thinking of you all. So hard to let go of our dear loved ones so suddenly but we must remember he is now safe in the arms of Jesus. Where we hope and pray to be when our time on this earth is done. May all the precious memories you have of Jonah keep his presence in your heart. The other day i was out with my 4 yr old and her friend and they were sitting in the cart singing `Cheer up my brother live in the sunshine, we`ll understand it all by and by.` It made me think of you and I hope and pray that you can find the strength to go on. May God bless and keep you all in his care. We love you all.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Jonah will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms CWO Jonah McClellan. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jonah. And to Jonah it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Jonah, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,335 military Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jonah’s family and loved ones.

There will Never Be Enough Ways to Humbly Thank our Young Heroes for their Sacrifices, my brother among them, killed in action in Vietnam in 1967.

Nina, many times a day I think about you and your children. May God give you much strength. We know He will take care of you and your children. Continue to trust in Him. I visited with a widow shortly after her husband of many years had died. She said, "Sometimes I can't figure something out and I ask him (her deceased husband) to help me and he does." Dear Rod, Leona, Nina and all in your family, God Peace. It was, and still is a shock to hear of Jonah's tragic accident. I have had that shock myself and often wondered if Phillip would join his brothers and sister in that heaven of rest while he was serving overseas. Still, though I have experienced losing a child, I cannot say enough how much I have thought of you all and sent many sighs to our heavenly father to be with you all during this heavy time. Grieve my dear friends, but do not grieve without hope. We have hope. For we know that he is there waiting for us. Our heartfelt prayers are with you all. Becki(Beatty)Davis, and my husband, Jimmy

Dear Nina, Rod & Leona, Dean & Bev with your families.

Words can't hardly describe the ache and longing one feels, oh to be there with you during this heavy trial. So many times the thoughts have gone to you, and a prayer sent that God will give you the strength for the day. Jonah has won that great victory and you have sacrificed much for our country.
