I know this is way beyond his passing, but I only heard of it today, Fri., May 22, 2009. My first cousin, Jay, has passed away and I am so sorry for his loss. We grew up close when we were young and unfortunately, lost touch as we grew older, but seeing his phots reminds me that he's the same sweet kid I remember, for you, see, I'm his older cousin- 7 years older to be exact and I remember spending so much time with he and Doug growing up ... still have photos/video of us as kids - those were the days. Jay, your photos show that you haven't changed and for that we are all grateful. To Doug - I am sorry for your loss, as you are the lone Delashmit and I know that must be hard. Your are in my thoughts and prayers, as is all of the people who clearly loved and charished Jay. I'm still in shock, even though we haven't seen each other or been close for years - I only hope you have/had some sor of memory of me. Your 1st cousin, Joyce Barnard-Bailey.

I was just looking up old friends on Google and found this memorial. I dated Jay for a short time in my much younger years. From what I remember he was a very sweet man. From what I read here, he continued that pattern. So sorry for the loss to his family & children.
I'm sure he turned out to be a wonderful father & husband...God Speed!

To Jay-
You now reside in unknown space,
A place we cannot know.
Transformed-you are beyond our reach,
Outside this earthly glow.
Do you soar with wings of eagle?
Do you ride the crest of wave?
On crowded streets we search for you.
Only memory can save.
You left behind-both young and old,
With aching hearts and stinging tear.
Our thoughts shall oft return to you
With the hope that you are near.

Dear Kara and Family,
I served with Jay while he was stationed at Chanute AFB. Jay was on my flight and when I first met him. I realized quick, Jay was a friend to all and always eager to help. We had a lot of fun patroling the streets of Chanute together. Jay was one of the trully great guys and eventhough it has been years since I have last seen or talked to him, my air force memories always included Jay and I've always considered him a great friend. Jay had a sense of humor and smile that was like no other.......my heart is saddened for "Our" loss, my prayers and thoughts are with you.

Thanks for the memories back in high school. I'm sorry to say that I didn't have the pleasure of meeting your family, but I am certain they too are great people. Rest well and keep God laughing till I get there.

Dear DeLashmit Family ~
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Jay was such a huge part of our high school years and memories. Jay was such a great guy with a contagious smile and wonderful sense of humor. I know he was taken from you far too soon and I pray you can find a small bit of comfort in knowing how fondly he is remembered as we reflect on those memories and times we spent with him that were made so special by Jay just being Jay.
Jay ~ I hope you have that smile on as you're walking with the angels!
Many Blessings,
Nicolette Poyzer

Jay - we love you, however the UK would like you to take back the snow you sent us all. We do not have any snow plows so are basically at a standstill. Seriously who is going to make me brats in beer and beer can chicken, who is going to explain the rules of 'American' football to me, who is going to listen to Jons IT geek speak and who is going to ride them coasters with Jared? You are thats who as wherever we are you are with us in our hearts, minds, jokes and stories. It will not be possible to forget you as you have touched our lives and we feel so proud to have called you our best friend. Even though you never got to meet Jared, he will know you believe me!!!! Send us some sunshine soon. Love your best UK friends Jon, Nicolette and Jared

Let me tell you a story that shows some of Jay's character. My family grew up down the street from Jay and his parents. Jay and I were on the track team together. One day after school, before practice, I was walking around the school with some other guys. It had rained recently and there were many large puddles. I think because I was on the smaller side of the scale, the other kids took a hold of me and threw me in one of the puddles. I was soaked to the bone. The tormenting continued...for awhile...apparently, Jay and one of his friends overheard things (I did not say anything to anyone...I was trying to be invisible and live through practice that day and get home). Next thing one heard in the locker room was what one could best describe as locker room justice. I did not have any more issues with those guys ever again. I hope this memory helps you. Peace be with you all.

Kara and all the Ernspigers;
I love you guys. And I am sorry for your unspeakable loss. Kara, a special message for you: We are all called to love and to keep on loving, and we are called to love even when we are hurting. The anguish feels like forever--but look for the sign, Jay will send you one to show that he is now in the loving arms to which we all return--and there is great peace for us when we receive that sign. I believe all of our loved ones who have passed send us messages in this way--even though that sounds impossible. Laura sent me a streaming gleaming sunset--it was days after I arrived home from her funeral, but I knew instinctively that it was her. All--Have faith and lean together. And love each other. I am praying for each of you to be consoled. Peace. And Love, Beth

He would leave the earth with it's troubles and fly.
He knew the warmth of a clear spring sky.
We spent days full of flying, he and I.
A tail chase, a roll, great summer delight.
Good conversation and a cookout at night.

Jay, this was much too soon. You are leaving a big hole in this family that no one will be able to fill. I'm going to miss that goofy grin that became so familiar and lovable this past year. We will take care of Kara and Kalah for you, but no one will be able to do it like you did. Be well and safe and happy my friend, my brother (in-law).
With love

Just rest now. We'll pick up the kids. And don't worry about Mom and Dad. We'll get them to the doctor. You'll be at the Reds games with us this summer. We'll look for you there. And where ever we are, we'll drink a cold one for you. Just rest now.

Sweet Baby Jay...Over the years, he made me laugh so hard I nearly wet my pants...well, maybe I actually did. Once or twice, he made me so mad I had to hit him up-side his head. He made me love him like a brother. I never expected him to make me so sad I would cry.
Guess he will always be in my heart!
